Volunteers flip over pancakes in Oklahoma City
There were almost too many do-gooders to do any good.
Carrie Coppernoll of News Ok, helped serve food at the Salvation Army’s Home Energy Aid Week pancake breakfast at the Masons’ Myrtle Lodge #145 in southeast Oklahoma City. The ninth annual Energy Aid Week is an effort to raise money to help seniors, the disabled and low-income families keep the heat — or air conditioning — and lights on.
There were so many volunteers that I had little to do at first. Oklahoma Natural Gas and Oklahoma Gas and Electric employees packed into the hall to help out. The utility workers were smiling and eager. Eaters could barely sit down before pancakes and sausage were placed in front of them.
